Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 Review

Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion endures the title, catapulting Miles Morales into the Earth 6160 world, trying to find his sister Billy, while also dealing with a radically different version of the heroes and manufacturers council he knows. Ultimate Spider-Man: Intrusion #3 fundamentally raises the ante as Mile finds Billy and encounters the ultimate X-Men, more specifically Nico Minor and Maestorm. He knows little, Billy is also in Japan under the careful eyes of a silver samurai.

Especially since this is the first time anyone but Peach Momo has dealt with the ultimate X-Men character. Considering the work Momoko created by shaping a fundamentally different version of the X-Men, everyone else approaching them must do it with caution. Thankfully, Cody Ziglar and Deniz Camp have a handle on how these characters are handled, as well as being able to carve out some great dynamics.

A great example of this comes when Miles first met Nico and Maystorm. He doesn’t speak English and they don’t see anything like him, leading to a short battle. Over time, Miles opens up to Maestorm about the fear of losing his sister and the fact that his old ultimate universe memories are beginning to flood, forcing him to fight for another kind of loss. Ziggler and Camp pour a wealth of emotions into the scene to make sure the reader is feeling Miles’s sense of sadness.

Amazing

Another wrinkle that Ziglar and Camp Add adds is inscribed between various members of the manufacturer’s council. Silver Samurai is backed by the Black King. The Black King signs a deal with Magick, who puts Billy’s life even more at risk. Despite these people essentially dominating the world, they are reminded that they are still subject to their own goals other than petite infighting and the grand scheme of the makers. I hope Dynamic has been explored further with the ultimate title of the future. The ultimate endgame is especially fast approaching.

Jonas Scharf handles the transition from Wakanda to Japan easily, pulling hell out of the battle scene between Miles, Nico and Maestorm. He has a great handle with Miles’ Arknid acrobatic and his unique spider Powers. The way Scharf draws miles in camouflage mode is unrealistic, let alone his spider sense. But the real standout is the silver samurai. Not only does he have bright and shining armor like his same name, he also moves with the bounty of fatal and hypnotism under Scharf’s pencil. Edgar Delgado also shines through the conflict between Miles’ Venom Saber and Silver Samurai swords, clashing with the power of a Star Wars duel. Finally, Cory Petit maintains the same vibe as the Ultimate X-Men by placing most of the dialogue within parentheses to highlight Japanese-speaking characters.

Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 hits that midpoint, allowing you to keep the ultimate X-Men great while significantly increasing the ultimate X-Men. Given where Billy will be rolled up next, it’s safe to say Miles’ mutant Mayhem is not over.

Everything from writing to lettering captures the ultimate X-Men vibe perfectly.

Scharf knows how to put unique visual stamps on Miles’ powers, bringing some epic battle scenes.

Ziglar and Camp make them feel miles in one or more ways.

Inscribed between the manufacturer’s councils is one of the best parts of this issue.
