On Tuesday, Clover Press launched a Kickstarter campaign for the final two issues of the eight-volume collection of Ruben Bolling’s multi-award-winning comic strip “Tom the Dancing Bug.” The campaign quickly surpassed its $2,000 funding goal and more than quadrupled within hours.
Two new volumes of Tom the Dancing Bug collect strips published in the ’90s. Tom the Dancing Bug: Secret Origins collects strips from 1990 to 1994, and Sex, Tom the Dancing Bug, & Rock ‘N’ Roll collects strips from 1994 to 1998. Each volume is an 8″ x 9″ softcover that matches the previous volumes in the set.
The Beat can publish an exclusive excerpt from Volume 1, as seen below.
“‘Tom the Dancing Bug’ has been serialized in newspapers for 35 years, and this is a direct examination of its roots, proving to be as timely and incisive as ever,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanarts. “Ruben’s fluid style provides the appropriate communication mechanism for his chosen immediate transmissions.”
In addition to the book itself, Kickstarter backers will also receive a Tom the Dancing Bug slipcase, volumes 1-8, an exclusive 24-page comic (Trump You!), a sticker sheet, a T-shirt, and a 13″ x 17″ autographed lithograph print.
Tom the Dancing Bug is available through Kicktarter until Friday, November 21st at 12am ET.
