I took part in a custom that was sufficient to realize that the heart and soul of all these events can be found walking up and down the artist’s alley. This year, I was lucky enough to catch up with Tom King at Los Angeles Comic Con 2025. Getting my signature on my copy of Love Everlasting led to a fun conversation about what’s in place for upcoming films and ongoing comic series.
Check out the interview below.
Javier Perez: I’m talking to Tom King here. I will be at LACC on the last day. How are you?
Tom King: I’m in great spirits. It was a great scam. I grew up here, so it’s like going home. This is my second time committing this scam. I grew up in Los Angeles and when I was a kid I never went to the cons.
I don’t know how long LACC has been going on. This was Stan Lee Khon for the longest time ever.
Perez: I’d like to hear about the ongoing process of becoming a lover of television shows forever, and whether or not you’ll get a new book.
King: Love Everlasting is located in Sony Pictures and is directed by Lenny Abramson. It’s in the process of becoming a film. I’m there every step of the way. Yes, I’m the producer of it. I’m currently working on a variety of projects. We co-created the lantern show. It was announced on HBO. He runs a Mr. Miracle TV show and writes Archie films. I do a lot of Hollywood stuff.
Perez: How is love different forever from these projects?
King: The Everlast of Love is very special to me. Obviously, it’s an indie book. It’s Elsa Carretier and me. It comes directly from our imagination. Directly from our love and analysis of the strange and complex genres of romance comics. For me, the biggest difference is that I feel like I love eternal vol. 2 is the best I’ve ever written.
I want to get that energy and place it on the screen. I’m very proud of the book.
Perez: Why do you feel that way about it?
King: So, it’s complicated, but you have to choose something. The book, the techniques I use, the techniques I use, the fusion of Elsa’s photographs and my words, everything is just something.
From a craft perspective, I have used various ways to tell a very complex story in an interesting way, so I am extremely proud of it.
Perez: Is there anything you’d like to tell your eternal fans of love, or those looking forward to the show?
King: Elsa and I are in the middle of the story. That would be 30 issues. The first 15 are out. That’s the first three volumes. The third transaction has been announced. We know how it ends. I plotted the entire story. I’m waiting for the planets to be allotted, so I can go back to the book. We’re taking this long break while the film moves forward. Eventually, the book comes back and we finish the story.
Perez: Thank you very much. Is there anything else you would like to add?
King: How much do you love this book and how much you appreciate the beat that has emphasized it over and over again. Love Everlasting was my passion project. I’ve read a lot of mainstream. This is a strange book. Who picks up it, what exactly is this? It’s about a woman trapped in a romance story.
I’m grateful that fans have gone along with its oddity and discover that in it there is Elsa and my incredible passion in this book. Thank you very much.
