TOKYOPOP’s Powerful One-Shot Manga A Smart and courageous child has been nominated for the 2025 American Manga Awards in the Best One-Shot category, the publisher announced this week.
Written and drawn by Miki Yamamoto, the manga explores the emotional confusion of her first mother, Saratakano, who shakes her confidence in the future, after hearing about the attempted assassination of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. With her due date approaching, Sarah must confront the harsh reality of the world and find the power to choose hope for herself and her unborn child.

Initially, he won the 24th Manga Division Excellence Award at the 2020 Japan Media Arts Festival. Smart and courageous kids are part of Tokyopop’s “Comics That Matter” initiative. This imprint champion will be responsible for socially relevant storytelling through comic and graphic novel formats.
Currently available in both print and digital formats, this full-color single capacity release includes 224 pages and a retail price of $13.99. The comics are appreciated by a mature audience.
The winners of the 2025 American Manga Awards will be selected by experts who serve as editors for Manga Publishers in North America. Voters registration is scheduled to open until July 21st, with voting scheduled to close on July 24th. The winners will be announced at a ceremony held at the Japan Association in New York City on August 21, 2025.
