Marvel Comics has released an unreleased preview of Alien: Romulus, a comic prequel to the upcoming movie. Written by Zach Thompson and illustrated by Daniel Picciotto, the one-shot will hit comic shops on October 16th.

“The Alien series is what sparked my lifelong love of body horror, so needless to say, I’m incredibly excited to be able to contribute in some small way to this film,” said Thompson. “Working with Fede Alvarez to produce a prequel to Alien: Romulus is an absolute dream come true and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. The result is a thrilling and terrifying story that slowly grows into something completely unexpected.”

So, what kind of movie is Alien: Romulus?

The Marvel one-shot takes place before the events of the film and provides enlightening context behind the movie’s main threat. Produced in close partnership with director Fede Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (both screenwriters on Alien: Romulus ), the comic is an essential supplement to one of the summer’s most anticipated movies.

NEW YORK, NY — September 13, 2024 — Following the theatrical release of Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the groundbreaking Alien film series, Marvel Comics is proud to announce an Alien: Romulus comic one-shot next month that will tackle one of the film’s lingering mysteries. Today, fans can check out all the covers and never-before-seen interior artwork.

ALIEN: ROMULUS #1, available on October 16th, is written by horror master Zach Thompson (Absolute Carnage: Avengers, I Breathed a Body) and illustrated by up-and-coming artist Daniel Picciotto (Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider, X-Force). The film returns “Alien” storytelling to its roots with a thrilling saga of young space colonists facing off against the universe’s most terrifying lifeforms. The Marvel one-shot takes place before the events of the film and provides an enlightening backstory behind the film’s main threat. Produced in close partnership with director Fede Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (who both wrote Alien: Romulus), the one-shot adds a new layer to one of the biggest cinematic releases of the year.

Marvel Comics will be releasing an all-new story that will reveal the secrets of the film’s legendary antagonist, and the issue will shed light on the tragedy that occurred aboard the space station Renaissance before Rain, Andy and their crew had their horrific encounter there.
