Dynamite Entertainment’s Thundercats comic book series is set to bring a new twist to the series. In November, fans can expect a significant standalone issue focusing on the series’ iconic villains, with art by guest artist Joe Mulvey.
Of course, much of the series focuses on the cats of the title, but in many subsequent issues, writer Declan Shalvey dedicates specific page time to certain members, using that time to explore the new cats. I spent a lot of time deepening the character description. The series also introduced new characters such as Kalika and Apex. Well, the next issue shifts the focus to the series’ iconic villains and gives them a chance to take center stage!

Mutants are a terrifying force that has always hunted and fought the Thundercats. Their conflict began in Sundara before its fall. They then found themselves on Third Earth, and from that time on, a dangerous alliance with Mumm-Ra began. Their most insidious member and leader is the slimy slime who stars in ThunderCats #10.
In the climactic ThunderCats #9, the Cats face a brutal attack from mutants. In this sequel, the perspective pauses, flips, and flips from the besieged Thundercats to the attacking mutants. Beginning in the calm before the storm, Slime begins with Thundara reminiscing about her life on Purandar before World War I, which shattered the lives of everyone involved.
Mulvey (“Happy Hill,” “Pillar and Pride’s Last Ride”) collaborates with Shalvey and is fully committed to this new thoughtful story about antagonists and loss. This issue is an essential entry into both the ongoing story and ever-expanding lore, but it’s also a one-off issue perfect for spotlighting readers and artists experimenting with the series.
Mulvey said:
Being able to work with a creator like Declan Shalvey on something like Thundercats, which I grew up loving, is a real pinch moment. I couldn’t be more proud to work on this issue. Epic action, developments, and emotional moments are sure to please any comic book fan.
Shalvey added:
I’ve been a fan of Joe Mulvey’s work for a long time and thought this issue was a great opportunity to work with him. It’s really exciting to have the story just focus on Slice for an issue and have a great artist like Joe introduce him. Joe has created a great page and I can’t wait for the ThunderCats audience to see it.
