THUNDERBOLTS* teaser trailer released

Marvel Studios has suddenly released a teaser trailer for the film Thunderbolts, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Beef), Thunderbolts* brings together Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ characters from Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Louis-Dreyfus plays nefarious CIA Director Countess Valentina “Val” Allegra De Fontaine as she assembles a new team of the MCU’s darker, more sinister heroes – if they can work together long enough to survive, of course.

The trailer begins with two extended scenes of Pugh’s Yelena Belova visiting her adoptive father, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (Harbour), and talking about how empty her post-Black Widow contract life has been. Soon, she has an apparent trap-filled encounter with U.S. Agent (Russell), Ghost (John Kamen), and Taskmaster (Kurylenko), who seem to be setting off on what they believe is a rescue mission for “Bob” (Lewis Pullman).

Bob Reynolds, aka the Sentry, is one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Created in 2000 by Paul Jenkins, Jay Lee, and an uncredited Rick Veitch for his own series, Bob is generally a hero but also a danger and a burden to others, but only time will tell if he will be a friend or foe in this one.

We also get a glimpse of Val’s lieutenant, Mel (Geraldine Viswanathan), as it becomes clear that the Contessa is the ringleader of the new group. We learn how Stan’s Bucky meets Yelena and the others, and he comes to save/arrest the group while Yelena’s father rescues them.

Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2nd, between Captain America: Brave New World (February 14th, 2025) and Fantastic Four: The First Step (July 25th, 2025). As Kevin Feige previously revealed, audiences will have to watch the film to find out why there’s an asterisk in the title. In the meantime, check out this teaser poster, which shows the main cast (including Pullman’s Bob) having some fun.
