Oni Press continues to release more graphic novels this summer, and their latest hit has been announced as ESPADA: THE WILL OF THE BLADE. The upcoming translation of the Spanish hit graphic novel by Anabel Collazo (No Miles Atlas, Encuentros Cercanos), which has already been published in French and German, This is the first time that it has been published in English.
The story follows the story of a young princess and her quest to forge her own destiny within a line of power. The synopsis from the publisher is as follows.
There was a time when everyone had access to magic, but in a power struggle, demons from another world were summoned and destroyed everything. . . There is a legend. However, there is also another completely different apocryphal story, according to which a hero with a sword came to the kingdom to guide and protect his people. But who is this hero and what happened to him? Why is it that only the queen can use magic? Attracted by all these mysteries of the past, Ania, the princess of the kingdom and the heir to the imposed throne, tries to find out the truth of these magical fables, since she has just found a mysterious sword.
“Espada began, like many fantasy stories, with a hero chosen to fulfill a duty…but never fulfilled,” said author and illustrator Annabelle Collazo. “Our protagonist happened to be in the perfect place to seize the opportunity and complete the quest that the protagonist left unfinished. Through the eyes of this character, I learned about the different ways power affects people and how powerful it is. I really like playing video games and exploring the world and seeing how everything is part of the bigger picture being told. That’s why I tried to incorporate some of this feeling into Espada.”
Espada: Will of the Blades will hit comic shops and bookstores around the world in May 2025.
