Since its release in 2023, Marvel’s rethinking ultimate universe soon became one of the publisher’s biggest success stories, offering fresh and bold takes on classic characters such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, and X-Men. Marvel Comics: On the Ultimate Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, fans got a massive dump of information about the following, including the end of one major era and the beginning of another.
Jonathan Hickman, the architect behind the ultimate reboot, confirmed that he and Marco Checkchette’s acclaimed Ultimate Spider-Man series will end with issue 24. The finale promises a powerful send-off for Peter Parker’s multi-generational family saga, touching on the lives of Mary Jane, Richard, May, Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborne. “This was everything I pitched,” Hickman said. “It was really good to carry out the plan. Ultimate Space Fans will love it.”
But the biggest announcement? Ultimate Endgame is the fifth issue crossover event to be released in December this year by author Dennis Camp and artist Jonas Scharf. The series brings together the characters from all five ultimate titles for the first time, marking the manufacturer’s long-awaited return. After being trapped two years later, the villain is ready to regain the world he once ruled, setting the stage for a space-shaking showdown.
“This is the craziest and most impactful crossover I’ve worked on,” Camp said. “It’s big, dramatic, and in the ultimate universe, you can actually change things in a big way.” Camp continues, saying that the intrusion affects the 616 and 6160. “It has a greater impact than most people know.”
Fans were first treated to seeing Ultimate Spider-Man #24 (The End of the Slide) and Ultimate Endgame #1, including a stunning foil variant cover by Derrick Chew.
It’s clear as Hickman promises a bold payoff and teases the outcome of the camp’s earthquake. Even if one beloved chapter approaches, the ultimate universe is just beginning.
