Artist Simon Born Bosson’s debut graphic novel, Trumpet of Death, will hit the shelves next week, with Beat having an exclusive first look. A young adult graphic novel published by the Lerner Publishing Group’s Imprint Graphic Universe tracks teenager Antoine.

Here’s the complete overview:

One rainy night, Antoine is dropped off at his grandparents’ remote house in the middle of the forest. While his absent father searches for his mysterious missing mother, Antoine gets stuck between doting’s grandmother and his grandfather, openly hostile to his presence, and time is crau’s whilst he waits to hear from his parents. However, when Antoine ventures with her grandfather to forage for mushrooms, the wrong mushroom leads to an impressive transformation of Antoine. “I thought the death trumpet was a two-part mirror story, where illusion responds to the silence and void that reality creates,” said Bornel Bosson.

“The trumpet of death, when touched on propelling action sequences and emotional moments, perfectly balances the exploration of intergenerational conflict, the dangers of degenerative roles, and the delicate boundaries of vulnerability and power,” said Editor-in-Chief of Graphic Universe/Lenner, “Simon Born Bosson has created one of the best examples of magical realism in cartoons. It shows how nature (humans and others) shapes us all for better or worse. A satisfying conclusion leaves space for interpretation and discussion, and encourages readers to re-direct it.

The Death Trumpet will be available anywhere the book will be sold on August 5th.
