The Beat is excited to exclusively reveal preview pages for Titan Manga’s Dopeman, Vol. 3!
The dystopian youth manga series Dope Man, written by Ryo Yoshigami (Psycho-Pass) and illustrated by Yuhei Ogino (Beyond Evil), is set in an alternate world transformed by paranormal phenomena and the legalization of the fictional drug Icarus. For those who fly too close to the sun (ahem) and indulge too much in Icarus, drugs can awaken superhuman abilities that reflect their true desires, and they are called “dope men.” As drugs become legal and addicts are protected by the government’s “Five Drug Laws,” a wave of supervillains with supernatural powers are unleashed on the streets of Japan. In response to this crisis, Japan’s Drug Enforcement Agency established a special investigation unit, “D Unit,” whose mission is to search for and arrest “dope men.”

At first glance, “Dope Man” appears to be a morality tale about the dangers of drugs, but its themes are much deeper. This is a story about how we, as a society, treat people in need, such as addicts, not as harmers, but as villains. The series’ two main characters, Tojima and Matrix, are often at odds over what the government should do to deal with the “dope man” problem, with the former believing they should be killed and the latter being rehabilitated.
“Dope Man” was serialized in Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch. The series was first released digitally in English by Comicy and ran from November 20, 2022 until its conclusion on October 18, 2023. As of March 18, 2025, Volume 1 of Dope Man was available in print for the first time through Titan Manga, an imprint of Titan Comics.
The third and final volume of the Titan manga will be released on November 11, 2025, and will arrive at bookstores near you. The price is $12.99.
