San Diego Comics – Sami Demonster, moderator of “Slaughter: Kill Some World” on Saturday at 2025, began by asking the editor and editor who is the person in charge of overseeing the manga genocide series. Author James Tinion IV chose Black Mask (Mask for Solo Hunter and Series Lead, Erica Slaughter, and therefore “feel” quote). Editor Eric Harborn chose White (Pack Hunter) and Editor Ramilo Portnoy went with Azure (Weapons and Technology).
All this has revealed at Random House, the owner of the new Boom Studio, that the Tynion series is contracted to kill children to do at least 100 issues (the series is currently around #50).
A series about secret organizations that hunt all types of monsters (the most common is “Oscuratype”) is now available by Boom! It has been the first studio since 2018 and has been around for a while.
The panel began with an investigation into the masks worn by the audience, with only a handful of white masked hands raised by moderators to pay special attention. The Demonster also asked about the “Totem” (panel markers) that the massacre hunter gets when killing the first monster (in-space markers). Tynion said he would probably end up in the bag because the totems tend to be unreliable. Eric chose Chucky, the killer doll from the children’s feature film series, and Ramiro took the stuffed animal.
The panel continued to discuss the intense emotional nature of the series, especially until the current story, Erica Slaughter’s early days as a hunter, was published #50.
Issue #50 is important for several reasons. For Tynion, 50 issues are the longest run he’s ever made. His Batman and Detective Comics each have 50 issues. It is also important as the series will return to the present and mark them when the editor sets up the next major storyline or novel so that they will refer to them.
As Lamiro pointed out, another surprising fact about the series is that few comic series have reached or surpassed 50 issues, making it clear that Boom will do at least 50 issues even more surprising.
The panel took a little time to discuss the current story arc of Flashbacks. The following year will be spent setting the stage for the next 50 issues. In the current arc, Tynion explores what he calls “Baby Erica Slaughter.”
In these issues we see Erica and her mentor Jessica and Jessica’s fellow Cecilia. James described Cecilia as an elegant and accurate villain, but also cold and complicated for humanity.
Around this time, Eric said series artist Werter del Edera had a video call saying “hello,” and that he was driving at that time.
The panel concludes with questions from the audience, and initially comes from Erica herself.

“What kind of pants does Erica wear?” Considering the activity of fighting the fierce monsters of Erica’s massacre, the problem had to arise. James replied that he was wearing leggings instead of jeans and slacks, as some have guessed. Cosplayers, be careful.
Another hint from the upcoming story came when one fan asked how country monsters in the countryside of America were massacred, as opposed to the city. Tynion’s response said the topic is something that keeps the sleeves for now, but it made me feel a bit off as the series would be addressed when it reaches the “missing house” of the series “including slaughterhouses, butcher houses, Cutter’s houses, and House of Cutter.”
Together with this, there were questions about monsters from other cultures, as the series focuses primarily on creatures in the American environment. Tynion responded that when the series deals with future international regions, the series touches on this. Tynion also likes Yokai Monsters, so that’s a story possibility.
We look forward to 60 more issues, but we all know immediately.
