A new Star Wars show is coming out in about a month. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will premiere on Disney+ in two episodes on December 3rd. The streamer released the latest trailer to prove it.
For the uninitiated, it’s a live-action drama set in the same era as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, or about 10 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. We don’t know much about the plot other than that suburban kids find a spaceship and go on an adventure.
If you’re reminded of the classic 1980s movie, you’re not alone. All in all, it feels like an homage to Steven Spielberg, Amblin, and the decade’s vast array of kid-friendly adventures. People call it “The Goonies of Space,” but a more modern term would be “Stranger Things of Space.”
The trailer also showcases one of the things I’m personally most interested in about this show. Part of it is set on a settled planet, possibly a core world such as Coruscant. There are also suburban residential areas and schools. Some people go to work. Not much is known about how ordinary people live in a galaxy far, far away. That’s my jam.
The showrunners here are Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, who produced the recent MCU Spider-Man movies. The cast consists primarily of unknown children, including an elephant alien who may or may not be related to Mos Espa bandleader Max Lebo. . However, Jude Law is in it. He will likely play a Jedi, but there may be a twist.
