The bubbly hot pink writing seems to be written on the walls of Formstars. Square Enix announced Thursday that the next season of 4×4 “Party Shooter” will be its last. To be fair, all of the game’s online services will still be available after the final season ends, and there will also be events for those who play the game. However, since development has ended (after switching to a free-to-play model in October), it’s hard to imagine that the Splatoon-meets-Fortnite shooter will last long in this world.
Foamstars’ final season, capitalized “PARTY GOES ON!”, runs from December 13th to January 17th. The “last update” (not exactly an encouraging word) will allow you to customize each character’s shot. After the final season ends, Square Enix will reinstate all season passes that can be switched at any time. This allows you to get items for all seasons and assemble a complete collection.
Foamstars launched on PlayStation Plus in February of this year. The game has unique mechanics, such as building terrain by spraying bright bubbles, sliding over it, and dancing on top of the duck’s head to push it toward the goal line (Duck ). But after today’s announcement, it looks like this bright, loud, all-out shooter is sliding toward its own finish line, perhaps with the development team moving on to other projects.
