September 26th is The Last of Us Day. To mark the occasion, HBO has released the first official trailer for Season 2 of the TV adaptation that simulates dire situations. It follows on from a trailer released a few weeks ago, which included the first glimpses of Catherine O’Hara’s character (who appears to be a therapist) and key newcomer Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever. It teases more scenes with both of them, including a terrifying scene in which an infected person nearly crushes Abby under a chain link fence.
The new clip also features plenty of other recognizable scenes from The Last of Us Part II, including Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) encounter with the infected in an abandoned supermarket and the famous scene where Ellie plays guitar for Dina (Isabela Merced). The game’s subway scene also makes an appearance, as do the Seraphites, and Jeffrey Wright, who reprises his role as the extremist leader in Part II. Of course, Joel (Pedro Pascal) also appears throughout the trailer, as he plays guitar and cries alongside Ellie, presumably in the middle of a therapy appointment with O’Hara.
Unfortunately, the video doesn’t specify a release date for the 2025 season, but HBO head Casey Bloys recently hinted that it will be released early next year in order to be considered for the upcoming Emmy Awards (as he did for the next season of The White Lotus ).
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog is celebrating TLoU Day in its own way with new goodies and other little perks: There’s a ton of TLoU-related avatars and emojis available to acquire using Steam Points, and the company has also released a launch video for the themed Steam Deck, while PS Plus Extra and Premium members will have access to the PS5 remake of the first game from today at no extra cost.
