The definitive origin of Crypto revealed in the final dog of the Crypton miniseries

Back in February for ComicsPro, DC Comics announced details of the crypto. With the colours of the final dog and Ian Herring in the Crypton miniseries by author Ryan North and artist Mike Norton. The announcement of this miniseries was not a complete surprise given how the new popularity of Superpets became popular after the first Superman teaser trailer in December.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Krypto is playing a pivotal role in Warner Bros. and DC Studios in the promotion of upcoming Superman films. In fact, DC announced its “Crypto Golden Biscuits” contest earlier this week. This has earned access to the Superman World Premiere after two fans spotted the “Crypto Golden Biscuit” hidden in a polybag copy of next month’s facsimile version of Adventure Comic #210.

Like his own steel man, the origins of Crypto have been constantly changing over the years, given the various notecons to the continuity of DC. In this Crypto: Crypton Miniseries’ final dog No. 5 miniseries, DC promises to provide definitive origins to its beloved dogs.

There will be a day when Crypto will stand by Superman and help him fight monsters, aliens and supervillains. But he’s not there yet.

Today, Crypto is a regular Crypton puppy and spends endless days in Snoozy with his family, Joroel, Lara and Baby Calel. However, if the rocket test fails, Crypto is lost in space itself and soon clashes into a strange, alien world called Earth.

Author Ryan North shared:

“The origins of Crypto have always been done at a high level. The little man starts with Crypton and helps Superman fight crime. The opportunity to truly define Crypto shows that a slightly lost dog will pass through if he lands alone in the strange alien world of Earth. Balloon’s thoughts too, Mike Norton’s art captures exactly what is needed “sayed” in every scene.

Crypto: The last dog of Crypton #1 will be available on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025. The first issue has a main cover of Jerry. There are variant covers of Jayley and Dustin Nuguen, Superman film variant covers from Danmora, and blank sketch variants.
