Image Comics has announced a new, continuous series The Darkness, which begins on December 10th. Written by co-creator Marc Silvestri, the series reboots the story of gangster Jackie Estacado, who inherits honorable power on his 21st birthday. Ed Benness and Ink’s Matt “Bat!” Banning, Sal Regla & John Livesay will provide the art for the first issue, with Raymond Gay (Gunslinger Spawn) taking over in the second issue.

The story continues again with Jackie Estacado, a mafia hitman who will take over a horrifying gift for his 21st birthday. The Elemental Force, known as Darkness, rules him the creature from other realms. As supernatural forces are wars over reality itself, Jackie must navigate brutal conflicts where good and evil are not clear.
“Darkness has always been one of my favorite characters,” says Silvestri. “And I’ve been wanting to come back to it for a long time. Fans can get Jackie back and deliver something really special. “This isn’t just a nostalgic trip. It’s a reinvention. It’s back to what hit the darkness. It’s a sense that its grit, its danger, its power always comes with price.
Originally featured in 1996’s Witchblade #10 by Silvestri, Garth Ennis and David Wall, Darkness previously starred in the ongoing series from 1996 to 2001, 2002 to 2005, and 2007 to 2013. Meanwhile, Witchblade continues to be strong, setting up the 16th issue of the latest series, which will be released on November 12th.
New Darkness #1 will be released in many covers featuring art from Silvestri, Benes and David Mack. You can check the full list of image press releases and artwork along with interior previews, with text, in pencil only.
