Today’s excerpt from Miguel Villa’s upcoming graphic novel “Comfortless” starts with a fantastic setup. Those hiding around the sides of the building begin to live stream others without knowledge or consent, and then embark on a journey.
By saying anything more than that, I wouldn’t ruin the excerpt (you can read it below), but I wanted to note that it drew me in on the first page and quickly brought the action to an inevitable conclusion.
Read the book’s description from the list of publishers below and then check out the excerpts at the bottom of the page. If you’re like me, you’ll enjoy it – it’s dark, weird, frizzy, and compulsively easy to read. enjoy!
From the publisher: “This book is not arguing for scientific validity, nor is it intended to be informative.” So, at the beginning of his new graphic novel, Comfortless, Miguel Villa declares that it is a taxonomy of masks in which we pretend to live, and was carried out with the accuracy of a master sociologist. It brings together a kaleidoscope of weaving character studies, united by the way vanity, jealousy and selfishness emerge through fear, evil, and desire. Giorgia ends her relationship with Eva as she believes that the throw with Nick led to her pregnancy. Nick has a secret to reveal to Daniel, but he cannot express it. Stella meets Daniele and tells him about strange events she has experienced in recent years. Simone attends the Big Ve Day Party, knowing he is positive for Covid.
Theme Vila, located in the province of Venice, Italy, is global. Comfortress is a devastating fresco of the drift of mankind, where fear and selfishness draws a merciless map of the emptiness of our time.
Miguel Villa’s comfort will be released from fantagraphics on November 11th
