In the final hours of Amazon’s October Prime Day sale, there are only two Kindle models on sale (or actually available for purchase) on Amazon’s site. Why are there only two active listings for Kindle right now? It’s almost certainly because Amazon is announcing a new model soon. There is no hard evidence to support that. However, consider that the newest option, Scribe, is two years old. Consider that Amazon doesn’t have a color e-reader in its lineup (though its competitors do). Add to that the fact that the model is missing from one of Amazon’s biggest sales of the year. There is no doubt that new models will appear.
So why would you want to take part in the current Kindle sale? Some people don’t. However, some may prefer proven models to the latest ones. The good news is that e-readers aren’t meant to do everything a tablet can do. It should display crisp 300 dpi text, have a battery that lasts weeks, be comfortable to hold, and have a soft front light for reading in low light. Both of these models do that (plus Scribe adds the ability to take notes). Here are two of the best Prime Day Kindle deals (all two).

Amazon Kindle dominates the e-reader market, with only two models to choose from at this time. Of course, there’s a good chance we’ll see a new Kindle. Rumors suggest as much, and the last entry in the lineup was launched over two years ago. However, e-readers are not as technology-intensive as tablets, so the generational difference may not make as much of a difference.
