The world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is filled with truly unique characters who can carry their own comics, with Casey Jones at the top of the list. The vigilante, who wears hockey masks and swings sports gear, has been a fan favorite since their debut 30 years ago.
A heat wave grabbed New York City, leading to an increase in crime, urging Casey to tie him down to masks and gear to protect the streets of the Big Apple. However, he still deals with the injury suffered by Mayor Hail Hail, who shot him dead in the teenage mutant Ninja Turtles #5, and it turns out that Hail is beyond Casey’s physical wounds. If that’s not enough, the offender is using a new form of mutagen that jacks the physical attribute to 10.
Alex Paknadel does an amazing job of digging into Casey’s head, highlighting how he is happy to commit to the fight, despite not being 100%. Despite April O’Neill and the Turtle trying to convince him to take it easily, he pushes their concerns aside and even blows up those he saves. When Raphael, the turtle best known for solving his problems with his fist, has to talk about Casey, you know that things are miserable. If Paknadel is willing to push Casey into his mental limits and physical things, we’re on the wild.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey Jones #1 also has some glorious action sequences thanks to Aman Kai Nahi Elpan. When Casey appears in his full gear, Naerpin makes sure it looks as good as possible. When the thug gets bulked up by the mutagen, he shows his muscles bulging and bulging. Naerpin can even design a new mutant who will ensure that he crosses the pass with Casey at some point.
Finishing it all is longtime TMNT colorist Luis Antonio Delgado, who uses a fantastic mix of colours to portray a variety of environments. Casey’s room has a Spartan appearance highlighted by grey walls and minimal possessions. When the action hits Central Park, the entire scene shifts to a greenish-gray vibe that is very reminiscent of the first teenage mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
What really stands out about this comic is how accessible it is. There is a connection with the current teenage mutant ninja turtles comics, but you can start anew by taking this issue. You definitely need to follow this model, especially if you follow a character that is as dynamic as Casey. It shows that with the right hand they can carry their own story.
