DC Comics’ Absolute Power event has had plenty of fascinating pieces, including the fantastic one-shot Absolute Power: Task Force VII series. This week’s issue, No. 7, focuses on global heroes responding to the threat posed by Amanda Waller. The Amazo family are wreaking havoc in America, but they’re well aware that they need to take down international heroes as well.
First of all, Fran Gallant’s art in this issue is amazing, using vibrant colors and an anime-style look and feel that perfectly suits the bevy of heroes you’ve never heard of. In fact, the looks of the international heroes are some of the best parts, as they’re colorful, have unique powers, and look cool. Gallant had to draw a ton of lesser used heroes, but he captures their looks perfectly.
The story is a fairly straightforward combat comic with international heroes rushing to the Eurocorp rescue. When they arrive, Amazo has already absorbed Martian Manhunter’s powers and quickly defeats them. So the Global Guardians come in, consisting of Tasmanian Devil, Jack O’Lantern, Jet, and Freedom Beast. Writer Dan Watters is well aware that we don’t know much about most of these heroes, and provides handy text detailing their powers and names.

Then, just as the heroes seem certain of their victory, the drama escalates between them, and Watters delves into the interpersonal drama. In fact, by the end of the issue, Watters has the reader wanting more of these international heroes, who are colorful and each have their own drama to explore.
As usual with this series, there’s also a side story focusing on the heroes’ escape from Waller’s prison, this time with Steve Trevor leading the charge to free Frankenstein’s monster. But this back-up story doesn’t add much, as it only confirms what we already know about Waller’s plan. It’s nice that it ties in so well with last week’s Wonder Woman issue, but it doesn’t add much.
Absolute Power: Task Force VII #7 will leave you wanting to read a lot more international superhero comics, and not only are there a ton of comics you probably don’t know about, they’re also super cool looking and have a ton of their own drama.
Absolute Power: Task Force VII #7 is a fun adventure story featuring non-American heroes.
