Courtesy of Deathgasm Kickstarter, AIPT can share stolen clothing items that can be scored if they return to the project. That’s not all, but I’m chatting with Joshua Viola from Bit Bot Media!
Deathgasm 1.5: Director’s Cut serves as a prelude to the highly anticipated film, with Bit Bot, Howden’s Metalheads Inc. and Freakzone Games working together to develop a retro 16-bit side-scrolling death gum video game. Backers will be able to access the game early before it is released to the public, and physical copies will be available on the PS5 through the campaign.
Fans can sign up to the Kickstarter Prelaunch page to receive email alerts for both projects when the campaign launches.
Check out the shirt and take a look inside the projects below!
AIPT: What are the challenges of making comics that work between two films/work between bridges? What about the opportunity?
Joshua Viola: The challenge isn’t very fun! As a producer of the second film and a co-publisher of graphic novels, this was an incredible experience. Next week I’ll be visiting the film set and sharing some of the material from my graphic novel with the cast for the first time. I can’t wait!
aipt: How much of this project works only because deathgasm is very comical in nature (violence, excessive gender, etc.)?
JV: The comic book format definitely gave us the freedom to everything with gore and action. Plus, there are sequences set in Hell that require a huge budget to shoot. Jason and Pete were able to explore many elements that they had in mind that they couldn’t do in film.
AIPT: Can you talk about the creative team in this book? What do they bring to the “Deathgasm Universe”?
JV: Creator, co-writer and film director Jason Howden is the main creativity behind the project. This is really his baby. He and co-author Peter Bne had already had established working relationships. After I connected with Jason as a producer in the sequel and learning about Bitbot, he asked if he was interested in collaborating in graphic novels. It was easy. Peter was associated with artist Industrias Lamonicana. James Aquilone (my co-publisher) and I concluded the team with colorist Zach Atkinson, letter Jeremiah Lambert and author Michael Schwartz.
AIPT: Do you have any favorite moments/scenes in this book?
JV: I do, but I can’t go into too much detail and you can’t publish it. Let’s say in this hell version of the universe, spiders and male genitals merge to create something truly frightening.
aipt: How long will a book lead directly to the next deathgasm film?
JV: This story delves into what happened to Brody’s companions and shows how Medina helped transform the gasm of death into something Brody could never have imagined. It adds a lot of depth to the first film experience and also strengthens the sequel.
AIPT: What does Deathgasm 1.5 represent in terms of bigger goals and planning for bitbots?
JV: We also offer Deathgasm products including high-end latex masks from Aeloth, Brodie and Zakk. Additionally, we are working with Freakzone Games to develop Deathgasm video games.
AIPT: What should I know about books, Bit Bot Media, Deathgasm, Kickstarter campaigns, and more?
JV: There are plenty of great rewards that Deathgasm fans don’t want to miss. And if you like death gasm, take a look at Bitbot, we have some big surprises this fall…
