Last week I looked at Superman’s box office revenue and its status was trumpeted everywhere, so I really didn’t need it. But there are still so many questions! After years of struggle and stumbling, it’s hard to believe the DCU/DCEU is OK. Let’s run it!
Do you have legs? The answer seems yes. In the second week of $572 million domestic, WBD was the number one studio of the year (until Disney regained the crown with the Fantastic Four), and the decline in the second week was decent.
Superman’s second weekend ease of use was -54%, a par decrease to the second weekend’s dish pool and Wolverine, better than the second weekend of seeing YTD, Thunderbolts (-56%) and Captain America: Brave New World (-68%). The IMAX Auditorium delivered an additional $7.2 million (13% of Weekend 2) with a $32.8 million running turtle. Running a 10-day cume with Gunn’s Superman is $235 million.
Superman is still weak overseas, but is set to collect the budget. But is it big enough? There are definitely some concerns about poor overseas numbers, but overall they can be ranked as “solid.”
“Domestically, ‘Superman’ has been caught in a landing, but the international numbers are disappointing,” says Jeff Bock, a box office analyst for $95 million overseas exhibitor relations. “Superman is the film you need to pack more punches in your debut, not resetting the entire universe, but to be one of the biggest summer blockbusters.
More importantly, Wall Street feels good about the bow. Warner Bros Discovery Stock increased 2.4% from $11.73 at the end of July 14 to $12.01 by the end of July 14th. He adds:
But how did the main player respond? WBD Head David Zaslav waited wisely until he returned to Crow about the film.
“Three years ago, I hired James Gunn and Peter Saffron to rethink and unify DC’s creative direction under one leadership team. I breathed new life and excitement into one of the world’s most iconic storytelling franchises.” “My commitment to honor James and Peter’s DC Universe legacy is to fake new and build something seductive.”
Director James Gunn has won a big win lap by chatting it over multiple interviews and social media. The traditional sit-in with Kyle B Cannon in the New York Times is a good overview (gift link) with a focus on scripts.
What did you find walking with this material like the toughest tone tug of war?
Well, Superman is not the kind of character I usually deal with. In the past, the stories I usually tell are about people who are problematic souls, and little by little I discover something good about myself. That’s not true about Superman. This is almost the opposite. He is a purely good, injustice soul, and he must find something troublesome and deal with it. And he is not cynical – he is unironic, he is real, he is conscientious.
Even this excerpt gives you an idea of why the film worked. Gunn can identify what sets Superman apart, and can see it through ten years of planning, separating it with a mind and ample world building.
Perhaps more importantly, what does Superman’s success mean for DC Comics for our purposes? Signs refer to good! DC Studios with more pulls in WBD must be a good thing, as Gunn is a comic fan and has great relationships with DC comic management and creators. For example, upcoming Supergirl films are based directly on the views of Tom King and Bilkis Every. Additionally, the overall goal of setting up more characters for the ongoing project worked. Authentic: Was anyone excited about The Terrific two weeks ago? Now Reddit is full of people asking where to read more about him. People are already talking about what else is coming for Supergirl, the Lanterns and DCU.

There is no sales chart or a sales chart to see if it affects the sale of cartoons, but you’ll be surprised if you’re not heading towards positives.
There were some sawaluss there. Complaints that the film was “political” made headlines, but it appears to have not affected the box office revenue. However, this will never die as the debate continues to drive traffic.
And of course, “Snyderbros” brings home Snyder’s verse, primarily on Twixxer, saying that the movie is a flop. I understand that I have an obsession to give meaning to your life, but maybe it’s time to start doing Thanos and growing corn, people.

Written by the script or the Dawn of Snyder’s Dead, Gunn addressed the issue of Henry Cavill in a thoughtful way. It was announced that Cavill would return that day as Superman, even if a new DC studio contract under Gunn and Peter Safran is signed. And that wasn’t a plan. It was a troublesome situation for everyone.
“It was a real shame, I was like this poor guy, and the right thing to do is sit with (Cabill) and talk to him,” he said. “And we sat down and spoke to him. He was an absolute gentleman and a great man about it. “The only thing I ask is that I can reveal it yourself, not come from you.” ”
The Guardians of the Galaxy Writer Director told Cavill that “it was really unfair and totally unfortunate for him,” but that “it was never part of the equation because he wanted to take on what he wanted to do in DC and was trying to force their path.”
External power? So, who is that?
Gunn is too gentleman to say, but if a great detective, and Batman had investigated this case, he would have sufficient clues. You may remember that Cavil’s final turn as Superman was a cameo by Black Adam. And Dwayne Johnson had his own plan to take over the DCEU with his own vision:
From there, Dwayne Johnson reportedly worked hard to get Henry Cavill back to folding. Coincidentally, Johnson and Cavill shared a manager, who joined Johnson and asked for Cavill’s return. Walter Hamada, the head of DC films at the time, didn’t like the idea (because he has other Superman-related plans), but Johnson got over the heads of executives by going to Warner Bros. Film Head, Michael Delca and Pamela ABDY. Eventually, Abdy and De Luca approved Johnson’s request.
The rest is, as they say, cinema history. After the cameo was revealed, Rock reacted to Soupes’ return and even admitted that he and his team “fighted for years” to get the character back. A-Lister was very bullish about Black Adam and Superman having each other fight in the film at one point.
Rock’s history plunged alongside his own storyline – and it’s well documented that he’s too busy relocating his tequila collection to complete the story. Maybe like John Cena, Superman would have been asked to turn his heels. That wouldn’t have been a good idea.
By re-activating the presence of DC films, can the first step of Fantastic Four do the same in the MCU? Please answer later this week!
