This year marks 30 years since Age of Apocalypse, the landmark X-Men crossover that defined the 90s and left a lasting mark on the comics. That legacy is inspiring this month’s revelation event and next month’s sequel series X-Men of Apocalypse of Apocalypse. To celebrate, Marvel will be releasing this November from X-Men: Tales of Apeas of Apocalypse #1. This is a special one-shot that collects debut issues for four core titles: the original Saga: Amazing X-Men #1, Factor X #1, Weapon X #1, and Amazing X-Men #1.
When Age of Apocalypse began in 1995, Marvel surprised readers by cancelling all the main X-Men books and replacing them with lines that were fundamentally rethinked by dark alternative reality. In this dystopia, Professor X died 20 years ago in a time travel accident, and the apocalypse rose to pave the way for brutal control. Hidden among the oppressed survivors of humanity, Magneto leads to desperate resistance (eating a dramatically altered version of the familiar hero) in the battle for freedom. Along the way, readers encounter amazingly different takes on icons such as Cyclops, Havoc, and Wolverine, each of which changes shape in this war-torn world.
