Square Enix Manga & Books has announced Comic Partner, a new retailer support initiative designed to boost the sale of comics at comic bookstores nationwide. The initiative aims to work with Penguin Random House to provide retailers with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the growing cartoon market.
The program will launch in April 2025, according to a press release shared by TheOasg on X (formerly Twitter). Retailers registered with Penguin Random House’s Direct Market Partnership Program have access to the benefits of comic partners, including store manager training, in-store promotional materials and early access to selected manga titles.
Morgan Perry, Marketing Manager at Square Enix Manga & Books, explained the purpose of the initiative.
“We are seeing significant growth in the comics market among Western audiences, but retailers are expressing their challenges with overwhelming options and knowledge gaps. With the initiative of comics partners, comic shop partners aim to unlock the possibilities of comics sales by curating excellent content, providing market support and educating sales-related content.
Comic Bookstores already registered with Penguin Random House’s Direct Market Partnership Program will automatically become Square Enix Comic Partner Store. This allows access to exclusive promotional materials, one-on-one cartoon retail consultations, and free Advance Galley copies of selected Square Enix titles.
To launch the initiative, Square Enix Manga & Books has announced that its comic partner retailer will receive pre-copies of two debut series.
On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance, Vol. One Love in the Palm of His Hands, vol. 1
The initiative marks the key step of expanding the presence of cartoons in cartoon stores while still providing retailers with resources to meet growing demand.
