Before Jason Aaron and Mahmoodusler’s Bug Wars return in 2026 with the next major storyline, readers will be able to taste what’s coming in a deadly new one-shot this January. The oversized problem dives deep into the dark corners of the garden, expanding the myth and setting the stage for the brutal second chapter of the Saga.
The special highlights the ominous Spider Sect and presents the story of Weista the Wayward Watch in the War of the Exiled Magician. Aaron and Asler are joined by artist Valde Malibas (D.C.’s two-faced, Godzilla vs. Kansas City) to bring this shadowy world to life.
“The ride through the yard has just begun,” teased Aaron. “Spyder Wytch Special explores the witches of Spider Sect. Then you’ll return to the Slaymaker family in Book Two. On the way, expect more murderous insects and small sword-wielding warriors.” Asler said, “This collection represents the years when our efforts are swarming together. It’s an exciting way to continue Slayde’s journey in the world of bug wars.”
For those unfamiliar with the series, Bug Wars follows Slade and Sydney’s Slaymaker, bound by his father’s legacy and divided into relationships with insects. As a mysterious collision reduces Slade to the size of ants, he enters a savage world of ants, beetles, and spell casting spider witches. Honey, I shrunk the kids clashing with Conan, the wild guy.
Originally announced at Ashkan, a buzz-worthy Ashkan at New York Comic Con, Bug Wars quickly gained critical acclaim, sold out and spots on the “Most Anticipated Comics of 2025” list. Now with the arrival of Spyder Wytch Special in January, Aaron and Asler are just beginning to spin a net of insect-driven fantasy genocide.
