Earlier this year, Dark Horse Comics published the superhero cosmic horror Beyond Mortal by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Danny Ruckert. In this work, the good-doers and the bad-doers work together to prevent humanity from reawakening. old gods. The creators are now teaming up again for a four-issue spin-off titled Jumpscare. Written by Jim Campbell, this book introduces readers to a new vigilante of the same name, inspired by her love of horror movies.

Jumpscare #1 cover by Danny Ruckert

Strong, fast, and violent, Jumpscare is a horror fan turned vigilante who can summon every gore-filled weapon in every gore-filled movie you’ve ever seen. With this power, she has become a force for good in Empire City, hacking her way through bad guys and monsters alike. Now her enemies want her dead, and the gangster-turned-monster Grindhouse will do everything he can to bring her down.

Ban declares: “Without a doubt, Jump Scare is one of the most fun comics I’ve ever written. I love this character. She’s everything I love in a horror movie, everything I love in a superhero, Everything you love about comics in one character. If you’re a horror fan, get ready to meet your new favorite superhero.”

The series marks the latest collaboration between Bang and Ruckert, following Regression (2017), The Red Mother (2020), Shock Shop (2022), and Beyond Mortal. The artist further added: “Jumpscare was a real mayhem-filled explosion and we can’t wait for people to see her in all her terrifying glory.”

Jumpscare #1 (of 4) will be released on February 26th and will be sold online and at local comic shops for $3.99. The original graphic novel Beyond Mortal is available now from all good comic book retailers.
