Filming has already begun for the highly anticipated Supergirl. The characters are set to appear in upcoming Superman films before the film arrives next summer. Naturally, DC Comics Publishing is planning a character push with its “Summer of Superman” initiative. So fans are hoping Supergirl will also be in the spotlight. Sure enough, today we announced a new Supergirl ongoing series written and portrayed by Sophie Campbell, best known for her work on Wet Moon and IDW’s teen mutant Ninja Turtles, at Comicspro ’25 DC .
Here’s how DC explains the new Supergirl ongoing series:
Kara Zor-El has always been an important member of the Metropolis superfamily, but Campbell returns to the town’s roots of Midvale and takes Supergirl in a new direction in a familiar environment. But as I return to my hometown for years and then I have already had some challenges. There is already another Supergirl, defending the town and saving the day. Readers should check out their debut issue on May 14th to see if the real Supergirl can discover the identity of the con artist and stop them before stealing her life!
As an embarrassing fan of the character, this is Sophie Campbell’s dream project.
“I was mostly doing graphic novels I wrote and drew in the comic industry, so doing the same thing as Supergirl feels like I’m back to my storytelling roots,” says Supergirl Writer. /Artist Sophie Campbell said. “My main touchstones for Kara Zor Elle were the stories and wild costumes from the ’70s, the 1984 Supergirl film, and the CW show I was a huge fan of.” “This version of Supergirl is When creating it, we will take advantage of some of these influences as the series unfolds.”
Needless to say, Supergirl wears many different costumes for the comics. Therefore, this new series features a new look of Might’s maiden, designed by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.
“I did video game artwork, so I’m very familiar with designing characters and creating costumes,” says Artgerm. “When designing a new costume for Supergirl, I wanted to make something fresh while still keeping the key elements intact. I adopted the theme of “sporty and fun” but stuffed with punches “They incorporate those elements into their costumes. We also made changes to the breast symbol to give it a more dynamic spin. Sophie captured her appearance perfectly. I can’t wait for readers to see it. ”
In addition to the main cover of series writer/artist Campbell and the cardstock and foil variants of Artgerm, the first issue of the Supergirl ongoing series is a variant by Bilquis Evely (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), Pablo Villalobos and Joshua Middleton We will feature covers. W. Scott Forbes.
In the case of Crypto, having gained a lot of love recently, fans are interested in other superpets, namely supercat stripes. In design art, it seems we can expect to see a streak in this series as it is all indication. Let’s see if the fur fly when Crypto and Streak are in the same room.
