The acclaimed indie comic fantasy series Skullkickers has been living a new life with the new “Compact Attack” edition since February 2026.

“When Skullkickers was originally published in 2010, fantasy comics and D&D culture were faintly faint compared to the sparkling pop culture explosion we’ve seen since then. And we’ve been six years since Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking attitude on the big screen,” Zub said. “Skullkickers were “Deadpool” like D&D before it turned out to be. Skullkickers knew that Sword & Sorcery’s storytelling was surprisingly ridiculous.

Check out the covers for all three editions below.

“Without Skullkickers, we wouldn’t have worked on Pathfinder, Samurai Jack, Dungeons & Dragons, Conan the Barbarian and dozens of other titles,” Zub continued. “It’s a naughty magic spell that changed my life and I’m so proud of what the book is. Now, in partnership with Oni and their new compact publishing line of killers, we can grab a whole new generation of comic collectors, sword and magic stubborns, RPG supporters and manga maniacs.

Portland, Oregon (May 27, 2025) – Kick your skull! ONI PRESS – Since 1997, multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publishers of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels are proud to return to the entire new, compact digested world of skull kickers, remembering everything about Jimsub (Dungeons & Dragons, Conantherma) for Jimsub (Dungeons & Dragons, Conantherma) and Edwinhan’s Senbez (Street Fantasz). Introducing all 34 of the series’ 34 shots in three 5.5 x 8.5 digest volumes that arrived at the store in spring 2026, the whole new Skull: The compact attack version of the ONI Press is the perfect starving form for busy paladins on the go. And the magical partner movie!

If you love the sword, Sassary, and the touch of violence in the black heart, Skullkickers is the book for you! Hardheaded mercenary trio killed monsters and wreaked havoc in an endless search of money, fame and adventure, winning this Yalsa Award winner Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Award, and was nominated for Harvey Awards from the admiration of Jim Zub and Edwin Fans and the absurd team – Book Freed Freed Perfect!

“With all the trademark style, swaggers and humor, Skullkickers is one of the emerging series that redefined the metrics of how independent comics looked, resonated and felt in the 2010s, and still resonated with readers today and with readers. “It’s a great honor to pass Jim and Edwin’s much-loved, highly praised series to Oni Press in an entirely new format for a new generation of readers. For those who love comics, fantasy or roll playing games, this is one of the defining series of the last decade that needs to be caught on your neck.”

The glorious, skull kicking action is the name of the game! See how Jim Zub and Edwin Huang came to life as one of the most legendary independent manga series of the 21st century, when Skullkickers: Compact Attack Edition set out for bookstores and manga stores everywhere next spring.
