If you take a high school English class, many Ados in Shakespeare Classics may not be part of the curriculum. If not, it’s covered in Abuzz, a contemporary rethink of romantic comedy. This graphic novel under a Maverick imprint from the creative team of writer Amy Chase, illustrator Stelladia, colorist Ellie Wright and letterer Taylor Esposito arrives on November 18th, 2025.
Here’s how publishers explain graphic novels:
Shakespeare’s beloved rom-com has nothing to get modern updates with the same classic misconceptions as the LGBTQ cast! Senior students Ben and Beatrice drag half of Messina into their never-ending debate, making things difficult as their budding lover hero and Claudio are asked to choose their sides in the fight. All the while, Bad Kids, led by Outcast DJ, plans to use mixed chaos to control the school. Do university letters and prom nights on the horizon, do these students find a happy ending or feel the stab of utter rejection?
As creator Amy Chase explains how the creative team can rethink classics, creator Amy Chase said:
“Some of the best Shakespeare happens when it’s not strictly Shakespeare. Putting themes and characters into new and unique settings reveals the relevant human elements of these literary works. And I’ve built a cast into a vibrant group of children that readers can recognize and identify as they stumble over the tense social dynamics of high school life!”
Added by Illustrator Stelladia:
“Abuzz was my most entertaining trip. Amy’s script was very creative and charismatic, and I was laughing loudly while sketching many scenes. The book and he, one of our favorite things about books is that there is better expression in fiction.”
