Aipt has a scoop where fans of Patrick McDonnell’s work can get a free print if they pre-order all the gifts from Mutts.com. If you visit our website and pre-order a book set with free gifts, get a free print. All the gifts are the enthusiastic follow-up of the curious cat Mooch and the ever-sturdy dog and the lead actor.

Both all gifts and Nothing Anniversary edition of the gifts will be published on October 14th, 2025 from Little Brown’s book for younger readers.

“I’ve always loved the holiday season, it’s time for magical bounty, giving and gratitude,” McDonnell said. “Among all the gifts, I wanted to capture joy. It was when he discovered that the whole world was our secret Santa, and the cat was a playful story of Mooch. I’m talking.”

So, what are all the gifts?

Of all the gifts, the cat is looking for the perfect gift for his best friend, Earl the Dog. But what makes Mooch wonder is what makes it perfect? Mooch quickly discovers the answer: everyone…where…everything! He sees the world around him with new eyes and fresh gratitude, so he is delighted to have someone worthy of sharing it all! In this delightful rhyming companion to the gift of Nothing, the beloved comic strip star discovers and celebrates the precious gift of being alive.

So, what is not a gift?

In the gift of Nothing Mooch, the cat desperately wants to give his friend Earl the Dog a holiday gift, but Earl already has everything he needs. “What do you give to a man who has it all?” Mooch is wondering. Then it dawns on him: nothing! But it’s nothing more difficult to find than you think. This perennial favourite sends a heartfelt, timeless message about the precious value of love and friendship.

“This anniversary edition of The Gift of Nothing is a celebration of my first picture book. It’s a story that appears to be written in its own right,” McDonnell said. “I love its simplicity, joy and timeless holiday message. The most precious gift we can give is ourselves. More than a present, it is existence.”
