HP Pavilion Aero 13 for $580 ($320 off) at HP: The HP Pavilion Aero is a budget contender in our laptop buying guide. It feels a little cheap and the webcam is poor, but it’s thin and light, has a good selection of ports, and the IPS display is solid for the price. Powered by a Ryzen 5 8640U chip, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, this configuration is fast enough for general web browsing, word processing, and light photo editing. This matches the best price we’ve found since the 2024 model’s launch.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 12) on sale for $1,099 ($500 off) at Lenovo: The ThinkPad X1 Carbon gets an honorable mention in our laptop buying guide, scoring 87 points in our review earlier this year I’m doing it. Its performance wasn’t the best in our benchmark tests, but it was still fast enough to handle the kind of web browsing, media editing, and even light gaming that most people do on their notebooks. The design is reasonably thin (0.6 inches), light (2.4 pounds), and durable, with a healthy selection of ports (including HDMI 2.1) and the bouncy, responsive keyboard that’s popular in the ThinkPad series. The matte display also virtually eliminates glare, but the 1080p webcam is fine and the side-mounted power button is a little hard to press. This is the lowest price we’ve seen so far for a configuration with Intel’s Core Ultra 5 135U chip, 16GB (non-upgradable) RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 14-inch 1,920 x 1,200 display. Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook Plus for $369 ($130 off) at Best Buy: The Flex 5i Chromebook Plus is at the top of our best Chromebook guide. We like the high 16:10 aspect ratio of the IPS touchscreen, which is great for word processing and web page viewing. It works fine for the basic tasks you need to do in Chrome OS, and both the keyboard and trackpad feel reliable. However, battery life is mediocre and it weighs 3.6 pounds, which is pretty heavy for a 14-inch notebook. This discount is $20 higher than the lowest price we’ve seen so far, but it’s still quite a distance from the typical street price for this configuration. ASUS TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (2023) gaming laptop on sale for $680 ($420 off) at Best Buy. Although a 2023 model, this configuration of the A16 should have plenty of features for value-conscious buyers. It has a 16-inch 165Hz 1,920 x 1,200 display, AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and AMD Radeon RX 7700S GPU. You still have to deal with the usual trade-offs of cheap gaming laptops. It can get hot under load, it’s bulky, the keyboard isn’t great, and the screen is a little dark. Buy the Alienware M18 R2 Gaming Laptop for $2,200 ($600 off) at Dell: The M18 R2 is the top 18-inch iteration in our gaming laptop buying guide. It’s an absolute tank, but it’s well put together and this configuration comfortably plays new games at high settings at 1080p or 1440p. It has a 165Hz 2,560 x 1,600 panel, Intel Core i9-14900HX chip, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU. This transaction price is not cheap, but it is a new low for this variant. A lower-spec model also sells for $1,900, but more demanding games can quickly run into problems. It’s also available on Dell and eBay via Amazon, although the latter appears to be out of stock.
ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2024) gaming laptop on sale for $1,615 ($285 off) on Amazon. Although not listed highly in any guide, this configuration of the ROG Strix G16 should be a solid value for anyone looking for a 16-incher. All-round gaming notebook.
