The creative minds of Matt Borth and Ben Clarkson are back with the latest installment of the Justice Warriors series. The upcoming graphic novel, “Vote Harder,” finds mutant police best friends Swamp and Shit at odds during an election. Borth and Clarkson co-wrote the story, with Clarkson providing illustrations and Borth providing backup illustrations. Felipe Sobreiro provided colors and Borth provided lettering.
The first book, Justice Warriors, was first published as a trade paperback in 2023 and has been in print three times. Justice Warriors has been praised for its humor and witty reviews. The Beat called the book a “cheeky, sharp satire.”
Here’s what we know about Justice Warriors: Vote Harder, published by AHOY Comics.
In the first mayoral elections of the crime-free utopia Bubble City, the incompetent celebrity incumbent Prince faces a challenge from the Bubble elite: his half-cousin Staffina Vippix IX, who promises austerity and competence. The people finally have the freedom to choose! But in a no-man’s land where millions of mutants roam, the radical and militant Frauf Tanko runs for third party office, hoping to inspire a mass population fed up with the whole system. Rallying to protect the votes of the people, mutant police officers Swamp and Shit are called in for a special mission. Shit must act as the Prince’s bodyguard, while his approval rating falls and assassination attempts intensify. Meanwhile, Swamp is sent on a covert mission inside the mutant opposition, where he must infiltrate, debrief and maybe even fall in love with a passionate activist who triggers an identity crisis. Can the two partners survive racing each other in a horse race?
Bors says the sequel is an “update” of the ’70s political thrillers with the modern paranoia of “conspiracy, partisanship and a desire to go beyond the ballot box and do something even more radical.” He describes Vote Harder as featuring “an unlikable candidate, an unfair media, a system designed to prevent real change, and the most important election of anyone’s life, and possibly the last.”
Clarkson added that the film is “bigger, badder and fairer than the original, with thrilling elements like orbital space lasers, giraffe assassins and arcane parliamentary procedure.”
With the release coinciding with the US presidential election, AHOY Comics editor-in-chief Tom Payer commented that readers may remember Vote Harder when they sit down to vote at the ballot box, “which might ease some of the anxiety.”
Below is an excerpt of a few pages, allowing the reader to see just how “amphetamine-esque” the artwork is, as Payer describes it.
Published by AHOY Comics, Justice Warriors: Vote Harder hits shelves on September 10th and is in bookstores now.
