The classic animated 90s Samurai Pizza Cats is back. This time, we have partnered with Tatsunoko Productions to take on a new intermediate comic adaptation from Mad Cave Studios Imprint Nakama Press. Written by Fred Kennedy, drawn by Lorenzo di Santo and by Charles Prickett, the series begins in spring 2026 with the new adventures of the Cyberferlin Defender in Tokyo.
Here’s an overview of Samurai Pizza Cats: 1:
Welcome to Little Tokio, pizza lovers! And what a hot situation you walked! The big cheese is re-appointed to his stinky shenanagan! This time he uses a fish stick to settle our fair city into a crisp, fish-involved catastrophe! And that’s the first few pages…and when this kitten starts to parry, you don’t know where it gets caught up in! Rock concerts, pizza sauce, reality TV, evil spirits, hammocks, mecha spiders, and even… Viking! You read it correctly, Buck-O, Vikings!!! So, throw your tennis shoes and slap the sweatband as you ride wild with this! Also… be sure to stretch it out. I don’t want you to blow your hammy away!
The first 200 pages volume features the Antonio Antro cover art shown below.
“My first conversation with Mad Cave was about (Samurai Pizza Cats),” Kennedy said. “I was pitching another project and said it was like a samurai pizza cat. It gave me a strange look and brought Chas to me. A cat-focused franchise in history!
“When the prospect of being involved in a comic became a real possibility, I re-watched the entire series. I sat in the basement, biting episodes with the kids, and loved it. It was a cool moment. He continued. “In fact, when I started putting my pen in paper (or fingers on a keyboard), it was a bit intimidating, but I always loved the side, the humor on the wall, and found a way to get the narrator to smash the cast and break the fourth wall and incorporate my own cat!”
In addition to the Samurai Pizza Cats Manga, which will be released next spring, there are also video games currently in development for Blast Zero and Red Dunes games. The animated series (pronounced in Japanese as Kyatto Ninden Teyandee) appears to have achieved a huge Renaissance 35 years after its original release.
Samurai Pizza Cats, Vol. 1 will be available anywhere the book will be sold on April 7, 2026. Pre-orders are currently available.
