Through Hollywood reporters, Mark Ruffalo returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bruce Banner/Dr. Hulk on the upcoming Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The trade paper states that Michael Mando will recreate the role of Mac Gargan (now Supervillain Scorpion) from 2017 Spider-Man: Successor Homecoming, which is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026. The report coincided with Spider-Man Day to commemorate the cover day of Peter Parker’s first appearance in 1962 Fantasy #15. Costume:
Spider-Man and The Hulk appeared together briefly in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the first time both Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko’s iconic works have discovered a big screen adventure. The film marks Ruffalo’s first appearance in the MCU since She-Hulk: Law’s lawyer in 2022, and appears to solve the mystery of Marvel’s plan for him after a prominent absence from this year’s Captain America: Brave New World (which featured two of his villains, the leader and the Red Hark) and the official cast (Devendday: Devend Decor Dector (Dector Dector).
Prior to this, the Netherlands expressed enthusiasm in an interview in 2017 about Spidey, who has a hostile relationship with the Hulk. Endgame left the banner in a relatively happy place, but struggled to control his clone and seemed resolved at first glance during the film’s five-year time jump, but you can see him return to a more aggressive state (like his cartoon counterpart).
Plus, Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters/Shee Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) or her son Skar (Wil Deusner, introduced in Shea Hulk), will also be suspicious on the new day, but the former becomes suspicious given that she works on the other side of New York-based Spider-Man. Similarly, it is unclear whether Brie Larson will appear as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, but she has worked with director Destin Daniel Cretton in all films since the short term 12 (including Shanchi, she… camed in the mid-credit scene alongside Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner!).
Anyway, Cretton fills his hands with a brand new day. The film also features the revival of Punisher/Frank Castle, unknown characters from Sadishink, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon’s MJ and Nedleys, so photos taken from location shoots in Glasgow, Scotland, suggest that the villain includes Martin Li/Mr. Negative (a character with a double personality, just like Hulk). However, there are no indications as to who will play him at the time of writing.
In the meantime, Cretton’s next MCU project, Disney+ Series Wonder Man, will premiere in December, while Marvel’s latest media project, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Eyes of Wakanda, will be available in theaters and Disney+, respectively.
