Skybound and Image Comics have teamed up with Hasbro to reveal the new creative team behind the Hit Transformers series. Writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and artist Dan Mora (Superman, Justice League Unlimited) arrived at the comic shop on October 8, 2025, and are officially boarding to launch a brand new chapter in Transformers #25.
The oversized anniversary issue also includes short stories from Kirkman and current series artist Jorge Corona, serving both as the second year celebration of the series and the perfect jump-on point for new readers. Kirkman joins the existing team of colorist Mike Spicer and letter Russ Wooton, bringing fresh energy to the heart of the energy universe.
“I’ve been a huge investment in this series from the start,” Kirkman said. “When Daniel Warren Johnson’s run ended, I couldn’t stay on the sidelines. It’s an honor to be part of these characters’ legacy.”
Dan Mora was excited. “When you draw your favorite Autobots and Decepticons, come back to your childhood. I want to add my own spark to their stories.”
The new storyline promises major changes for both Autobots and Decepticons. Optimus Prime appears to protect the Earth, so he faces an unexpected threat from within. And the fate of Decepticons remains an imminent mystery.
Executive editor Ben Abernathy calls the Kirkman and Mora pairing “dreams come true,” and teases a big revelation as Energon’s universe expands along with titles such as Void Rivals and Gi Joe.
Transformers #25 features a large lineup of variant covers from artists such as David Nakayama, Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Kael NGU, Jae Lee, and Dan Mora, with a collectable blank sketch edition and specialized foil and die-cut variations.
The next transformation evolution will begin on October 8th. Be prepared for an era that is more than just eye contact.
