I love trolling the titles of Comixology Originals, checking out series I’ve never heard of before, then diving in as I expect. Often there are really interesting setups and they struggle to land at the climax of the series. But sometimes you find a true gem worthy of the spotlight a little more than they received.
Mistrand certainly got off to a very interesting start. Its core appears to be rooted in Norse mythology, which was forced to share space within an underground city known as the Hollow, with regard to a society made up of three clans.
Not only is there a (probably) danger lurking outside the cavity, but the troublesome nature of the three opposing clans in such close proximity also seems to be full of tension and violence.
This first issue has many wonderful world buildings, and it is also offered fairly well organically, without feeling like it’s a lucrative exposition. There is also a short storybook-style sequence that detail important parts of Hollow’s history, and the problem itself ends with a rather shocking cliffhanger.
The characters seem diverse and believable, but a lot is happening amid the slightest turmoil in Hollow’s society.
In an interesting cliffhanger that certainly is a solid start and suggests a catastrophic time jump, we’ll see if this is another comixology Originals title that ends in a dissatisfied way.
Hello! I’m Jason and I write for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting regular, original human-generated content (which has never been plagiarized or copied from the hard work of other authors), you can keep this site up and running.
