Jackson T. Winters is released from prison to rob a wealthy patron. However, he is not in it to steal money or other valuables. No, Winters is tasked with stealing ghosts instead. The first order is to assemble your team. Then we head to the haunted house…
I get the impression that author Joshua Williamson was quite immature when he wrote this series. It’s full of attempts to make the main character seem like a bad guy, but for the majority of this issue’s page count, he just looks like an asshole. It also doesn’t help that the comic begins with an almost shockingly tasteless and completely unnecessary splash page. I guess the purpose is to show what Winters will be up against in prison, but that quickly feels like a big mistake.
But once you get into more traditional heist territory, things settle down. We get the familiar montage of bringing the team together, but the premise introduces characters that are a little more outlandish than you would normally expect.
While the cover art isn’t all that impressive, I found the more cartoonish interior art to be a good fit for the ultimately bizarre subject matter.
There’s also a good cliffhanger, so at least it ends in a decent place. It’s just a shame that the opening sequence is so jarring, and the attempts at humor on the first page don’t really help matters either.
Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.
Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
No pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.
Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
