To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Jessica Jones’ debut, Marvel Comics will publish Alias: Red Band, a five-issue series starting March 11th. Current New Avengers creative team Sam Humphries and Gerald Borges reunite for the film, which follows Jessica, now the first lady of New York City, as she returns to her former position to investigate a series of murders. In the process, she ends up teaming up with Typhoid Mary, the wife of former Mayor Wilson Fisk himself.
Also known as: Red Band #1 cover (David Mack)
A series of gruesome murders in Hell’s Kitchen draws Jessica Jones into a mystery more sinister than she imagined. The wife of Mayor Luke Cage, she must tread carefully as she forms a dangerous alliance with Typhoid Mary to track down the murderer. But as she delves deeper into the dark underbelly of Hell’s Kitchen, the evidence she uncovers poses more questions than answers…
In an exclusive interview with Polygon, Humphries said, “No one does it like Jessica Jones. She’s sharp, bitingly funny, and deadly tenacious. Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos snapped when they created her, a completely singular character with a unique perspective in the superhero game. I’m excited to push the boundaries of the types of cases that Jessica Jones can investigate and see how far she will go to solve them.”
Since her debut in Alias in 2001, Jessica starred in The Pulse (also written by Bendis) from 2004 to 2006. 2016-18 comic of the same name (Bendis and Gaydos reunited). 2018-19 comiXology original Jessica Jones run (by Kelly Thompson and Mattia de Ulis). And, of course, she was played by Krysten Ritter in the Netflix series of the same name from 2015 to 2019, as well as The Defenders and Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again (scheduled to air next year around the same time as Alias: Red Band).
The book is clearly not one of Bendis’ new projects at Marvel, but original Alias cover artist David Mack will return to work on the main sleeve. The first issue will also be released in March this year, with a new cover art by Elena Casagrande and Ji-Hyun Lee. In the meantime, you can check it out below.
