Newly launched French publisher Morgaine has already signed major graphic novel deals with some of the industry’s biggest creators, The Beat can exclusively reveal the details. Acclaimed author Ram V, artists Anand Radhakrishnan and Evan Cagle, letterer Aditya Vidhikaru, and editor Eric Habern will create a multi-volume graphic novel series to be published by Morgen over three years, with Image Comics as the English-speaking publishing partner.
As of now, the series doesn’t have a name or a plot, but with these creators at the helm, it’s sure to make waves. From the creator’s comments below, the scale of the work is already impressive.
“After having the opportunity and honor of introducing his work to the French market through These Savage Shores in 2020, and then accompanying him to Blue in Green and Dawn Runner, continuing our journey with Lamb V feels like a natural next step for Morgen,” said Morgen Publisher and President Sullivan Rouault.
“Ram embodies excellence: a rigorous and visionary understanding of what pop culture can and should convey to its readers. This new project, which brings together Evan Cagle and Anand Radhakrishnan, two artists I am also privileged to publish, is already standing out as the most ambitious work I have seen him undertake,” continued Mr. Rouault. “We are confident that this new series will set a new benchmark for independent comics for years to come.”
V said, “I’m incredibly excited to have found a home for a project I’ve had in mind for a while.” He shared Rouault’s feelings about working together again and reflected on reteaming with Cagle and Radhakrishnan.
“And it’s always a pleasure to collaborate with Evan and Anand, along with a group of creatives and great friends. I’ve always strived to see format, design, and the way a story is presented and told as part of the art of storytelling in the medium,” V said. “This book is probably the most ambitious project I’ve ever undertaken in that respect, and I can’t wait to work with some amazing people on it.”
“Ram V and I started collaborating in 2015. Initially it was covers and short stories, but then as we started finding our stride, we started working on bigger projects,” Radhakrishnan said. “From slice-of-life in Mumbai to gritty American horror to grotesque superheroes, we have always believed in experimenting with tone and medium and bringing something fresh to the table.
“So it’s with great pleasure that we can announce that we’ll be working together again, and as we celebrate our 10th anniversary of collaboration, this new project promises to be even more ambitious and larger-scale than anything we’ve done before,” Radhakrishnan continued. “Doing this alongside my industry favorites, the talented Evan Cagle, Aditya Vidika, Eric Habern, (designer) Tom Muller, and the talented Morgen team makes this a career-defining milestone project for me.”
“It’s truly an honor to be part of such a strong group of creators. With the support of Sullivan and Morgen, our work will have the space and creative freedom to shine,” said Cagle.
“‘Grafity’s Wall was the book that first brought attention to Ram, Anand, and Aditya, and ultimately led to my own partnership with Ram.It means a lot to me both personally and professionally to work with the entire collective behind that book, and I’m very happy that Sullivan was here in France. ‘ and his flawless presentation of both French editions in 2024 confirmed for me the great investment he has made in our creative team. I am absolutely thrilled to be working with him again to bring something fresh and beautiful to print,” Cagle continued.
