Radiant Black #34 Review

Radiant Black slowly teased the arrival of a new villain named “Jaeger.” He lurks in the shadows and has weapons that can confound the powers of the Champion of Space. In Radiant Black #34, you can finally see Jaeger in full…and when I say he may be the most frightening enemy he has ever fought, I’m not exaggerating. It says something when you consider that this book throws an army of space invaders, a werewolf/vampire hybrid and a tech criminal at him.

What makes Jaeger so scary is his design. From the way Eduardo Feligato and Marcelo Costa paint him, it can be said that this man is a soldier or a mercenary. Jaeger has Marshall’s helmet, but includes two fiery red slashes that should be his eyes. Jaeger’s red, black and white armor (combined with a leather jacket and utility belt) also feels like a direct inversion of Marshall’s black and blue uniforms. Even his words are fiery black and red (for some reason, Becca Carrey can paint him as if he was infuriating his words).

Radiant Black #34 also shows that Jaeger is a legal match for Marshall despite the power failures. First, he returns to his apartment by tricking Marshall into holding Eva hostages. He then causes another destructive bomb that ruins the power of the shining black. Finally, he offers the hero an ultimatum that puts his loved ones at risk. It all builds up to the final page where he was screaming “Holy crap!” “Where is the next issue?” continues.

It also shows that, like Ferigato and Costa Click, Kyle Higgins and Joe Clark have an incredible writing team. They know how to balance action-packed moments with lots of humor. At the opening, a group of armored pastors break into the donut shop. Because they believe it holds a portal to the alternative universe of catalytic warfare. There is no portal – just the bathroom, but it perfectly shows how stupid a theory of insane conspiracy is, emphasizing the dangerous length that some people go to to prove their lives. But when Jaeger appears, things become fatally serious. Radiant Black doesn’t avoid highlighting the dangers of Superheroics. That hasn’t stopped now.

The real standout in Radiant Black #34 is the battle scenes between Jaeger and Radiant Black. Higgins and Clark accumulate until that moment, and when it happens, it is absolutely intense. When the two fall to the ground, the window explodes. The car transforms into a projectile thanks to the power of the combination of black and pink radians. And one page is a literal explosion of action, for the coloured works of Costa and Rod Fernandez. But the biggest draw is that Jaeger can not only dodge all the sparkling black attacks, but also defeat the high sacred crap from Marshall.

Radiant Black #34 finally pulls Jaeger out of the shadows and spends his full length to prove why he is a horrifying villain. I don’t think I’ve been impressed with this for a while, but I hope he sticks.

Higgins and Clark make the balance between humor and fear easier

Jager is a truly terrifying villain

The final page that I’m hoping for as soon as possible in the next issue
