Fire up those resumes. boom! Studios is hiring a new editor as longtime Eic Matt Gagnon leaves the company on March 1st.
This announcement was made via Random House Publishing Group.
Gagnon was with Boom for 17 years. 14 of them were spent as an editor. During that time, he oversaw most of the movements that established the boom in both comic books and graphic novels, from Adventure Time to Something Is Killing Children.
“A truly epic journey that began for me in 2008 at the age of 27 finds me now at the age of 44, feeling very changed and very grateful for the legacy I am leaving behind,” Gagnon said in a statement. “It’s time for me to turn the page. A heartfelt thank you to my greater comic book community for being one of the most consistent throughlines in my life. In this next chapter, I’m going to give you all the stories I care about. Continuing to find ways to build stories with people, champion creators, and lift up the next generation. This has always been important to me.”
boom! Publisher Michael Kelly also had words of praise. “I had the opportunity to work with Matt for a short time and his reputation at Boom! is legendary, as is throughout the industry. He will certainly be missed, but we are very grateful for his We wish him well and look forward to hearing about his future successes.”
Just a few days ago, we predicted that one of the business stories to watch in 2025 (already an eventful news year!) would be the changes at Boom as it integrates to become part of PRH. And this is the first sign of that prediction.
