Panic sneaked some big news into the fall Playdate Update. Season 2 is underway. We’ll see that next year. Can you say “Yes!”? More than two years have passed since season 1 ended, and since then it has remained unclear whether another season will follow. However, during today’s livestream, Panic Video & Podcast host Krista Murugan confirmed that season 2 has been confirmed and will “happen next year.” Perhaps a consolation for killing the stereo dock?
There are still a lot of details we don’t know about Season 2, including how much it will cost (Season 1 is included with your Playdate purchase). However, Engadget has reached out to Panic for comment and will update this post. When I get a reply. The first season featured two games each week for 12 weeks, for a total of 24 games. Season 2 has included “about 12 games” so far, Mugan said. It seems that there will be a “really nice surprise” that the details cannot be revealed yet, which piques my curiosity.
In addition to announcing Season 2, the fall update also introduced several catalog games to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and into 2025. Comet is a puzzle adventure game about a young girl who must face her fear of the dark after her brother goes missing. Office chair curling, exactly what it sounds like, looks totally ridiculous in a good way. Bwords, a cute word puzzle game. A pinball game called “Devils on the Moon” from the makers of “Prufrog,” a game similar to Tetris. and the top-down boat racing game “Rowboat Rally.”
There’s also a huge catalog sale going on right now until November 14th. Some of your favorite Playdate games are heavily discounted, so if you’ve been waiting for the right time to grab all the titles on your “to play” list, now might be the time.
