oh! I’ll talk about the name of the bold face. The boom just hired five people for senior editorial roles and I hired five people who were smartest in the room. If you’re about to start something, these people are on your call list – formerly from DC Comics Sarah Miller and Kwanza Osaziefo. Previously Marvel’s Sebastian Ganner, the head of the current flying goat press. Chiara Valdez from the first seconds. Tea Funer was previously at King Feature.
Sara Miller has joined the boom! A studio in the position of an editorial director. Report to Editor-in-Chief Andy Schmidt, Sarah is responsible for setting our boom strategy and editorial vision! Box and Kaboom! Imprints for young adults and intermediate readers. Sarah joins the boom! Thirteen years later at DC Comics, she started as an assistant editor for the iconic Vertigo Imprint and rose to the position of DC’s book editor for younger readers. Sarah’s experience developing professional workshops for aspiring authors and artists, as well as the talent to guide new talent towards authentic storytelling, is a huge asset to the boom! studio.
Kiara Valdez has joined Boom! The studio is the editor of a special project. In this newly created role, Chiara works closely with Associate Publisher Bryce Carlson and our consumer team to build on the success of the Kickstarter campaign, which has led to Boom’s successful signing! studio. Additionally, Kiara oversees retailer exclusive programs and other projects aimed at fans and readers. Boom! Before joining, Kiara rose his editing rank by nine years in the first seconds, from an editorial assistant to managing his award-winning list as editor. We are delighted to be able to join Chiara in the boom! This innovative new position team.
In addition to the above positions, there’s a boom! The studio recently hired three individuals to the newly created role of executive editor. Report to Editor-in-Chief Andy Schmidt, these three talented visionaries will drive an imprint of adult audiences, a booming editorial vision! Studio and archives.
Tee Hoogner will be in the boom! King’s distinctive studio. Tee spent 16 years in King’s editorial department, including the past seven. Tea’s experience working with and working with cartoon characters from very early days, such as Popeye, Flash Gordon, and The Phantom, gives her a unique perspective on our ever-evolving market. This, coupled with her important achievements in moving forward with the underrated creator’s work, adds tea to the boom! Studio team. Tea will co-lead our eponymous (and biggest) imprint, boom! Studio with Sebastian Girner.
Kwanza Osaziefo, the creator of the acclaimed Black, brings industry expertise and external lenses to the boom! studio. At the top marketing and PR agency M booth, he led the creative strategies for Kamb, P&G and Campari Group brand campaigns. Kwanza started as a Marvel intern, became a digital editor, and later joined DC, starting his first Webcomics imprint and shaping his digital publishing strategy. For Humanoids, he co-created the H1 comics and wrote the flagship title with Mark Waid. As the lead of Al-Kaia, the imprint of graphic literature, Kwanzaa is ready to apply his ability to turn bold ideas into big hits.
Sebastian Girner concludes our new team. The background of Sebastian reads as if who is who in the comic creators and companies working in various editorial roles in Marvel, Image, TKO Studios and Taschen. As editor-in-chief of TKO Studios, he worked with talents such as Garth Ennis, Jeff Lemire, Roxane Gay, and Juni BA. For over 15 years, Sebastian has successfully developed a wide range of titles for readers of all ages, backgrounds and interests. I’m excited to be with him for his next chapter. Sebastian will be co-leading our boom! Studio imprint with Tie Hoogner.
Tea, Kwanzaa and Sebastian start with the boom! June 23rd, and everything brings a wealth of talent and experience, bringing unique backgrounds and perspectives to the boom! team.
