Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees creator Patrick Horvath has his next project Free for All focused on eating the rich. This sci-fi satire, which debuted from Oni Press in March, imagines a world in which society’s wealthiest members are faced with an ultimatum. They can either donate half of their wealth to charity or fight for it in a gladiatorial arena. Specifically, the series follows a billionaire whose ruthlessness is tested when he learns that he will be facing his ex-wife in his next fight to the death. Read the official synopsis and check out the harrowing cover of issue #1 below.
Free for everyone #1
In the future, the World Finance League will exist to benefit everyone and will be randomly selected from among the world’s billionaires and trillionaires and have them donate half of their wealth to the common good. or protect them in ritual combat. Reigning champion and real estate mogul, Ted Brooks, has won 22 times while protecting the wealth he planned and was trying to acquire in a desperate battle with his ex-wife, Luella Dominguez. Luella has been training, waiting for this moment. But does she have what it takes to defeat a man who will do anything, absolutely anything, to protect his fortune?
Horvath originally planned to release the comic through the crowdfunding platform Zoop. The comic’s Zoop page describes it as an “old project” that was “previously only available digitally” and will be “remastered with new text and colors.” He said in a press release: This idea was born out of great dissatisfaction with the state of society almost a decade ago, but it has become even more relevant given the current world problems. I am very happy that this book has the opportunity to reach a wide audience. ”
Hunter Golinson, president and publisher of Oni Press, commented: The case is disturbing and confrontational, but also fascinating and funny. ”
He elaborated and added: “Free for All” has all of the same qualities that Horvath is known for, including the vivisection-rich violence and a correspondingly noxious sense of humor, while also offering cultural commentary in parts, At Oni, we are honored to publish the next work in our ever-growing library of titles from such an immense talent, and we hope our readers will enjoy this March. There is little doubt that there will be a fight to get the pieces.”
Free for All #1 will be available in March for $7.99. This will be one of five new books coming out from Oni next year, all of which will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can read a preview below.
