Comic-Con International has announced candidates for the 2025 Russ Manning Newcomer Award. The candidates were selected by a panel consisting of Comic-Con International’s board and committee members and San Diego Comics retailers. Previous Manning Award recipients and Las Manning Assistant will determine the winners.

About Lasmanning’s Newcomer Award:
“Russ Manning’s promising newcomer award has been awarded annually at Comic-Con since 1982. Early in his career he was given to Comics Artist, who demonstrated his superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics. It was named after Russ Manning, the artist best known for Tarzan and Star Wars newspaper strips.
The first recipient of the award was former Manning assistant Dave Stevens, who continued to create Rocketters. Other past winners include Jan Duursema, Steve Rude, Scott McCloud, Art Adams, Eric Shanower, Dan Brereton, Jeff Smith, Gene HA, David Petersen, Eleanor Davis, Tyler Crook, Dan Mora, Anne Szabala, Zoe Thorogood and Greg Smallwood.
