After introducing F1 racing to millions of Americans with the documentary series Drive to Survive, Netflix is shining a spotlight on one of motorsport’s greatest athletes. Senna depicts the roots, driving forces, and tragic death of Ayrton Senna (Gabriel Leone), who rose from racing go-karts in São Paulo, Brazil, to international superstardom and 41 Grand Prix wins. You can watch the trailer below a month before the limited series debuts.
Netflix’s description reads: “Fascinated with cars since childhood, Brazilian racer Ayrton Senna became a legend in the sport…until tragedy struck and changed Formula One forever.” It’s dark. Showrunner Vicente Amorim ( Yakuza Princess ) is helming the six-part series. In addition to Leone (“Ferrari”), the cast also includes Kaya Scodelario (“The Maze Runner”) and Matt Mera (“The Bureau”).

The trailer below showcases Senna’s determination in the face of adversity, his uncanny ability to drive in the rain, and his love for his country. The LA Times reported that the series will be produced in Brazil, filmed primarily in Portuguese, and supported by F1’s governing body.
