If you can’t get your kids to watch one of the five NBA games on Christmas, tune in to Disney+, ESPN+, or ESPN2 to watch a special version of Disney. ESPN announced that it will air a “Dunk the Halls” broadcast of the San Antonio Spurs vs. New York Knicks featuring animated Disney characters.
The broadcast begins at 12:00 PM ET. If you just want to watch games played by normal boring people, it’s on Disney+ and ESPN+ as well as ABC and ESPN.
“Dunk the Holes” uses Sony’s Beyond Sports technology to transform Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom into Madison Square Garden into Main Street USA. The game also features classic Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald, and Daisy Duck, as well as Santa and the elves from Disney’s animated short Prep and Landing.
This is the first time the NBA has arranged to broadcast a game using animated characters and graphic overlays. It’s also the latest game in a new trend of pairing live sporting events with the network’s signature cartoon characters. ESPN+, Disney+ and the NFL+ app will air an alternate version of the Bengals vs. Cowboys game on Dec. 9 featuring virtual characters and scenes from The Simpsons. ESPN3’s Full Court Press broadcast uses technology designed by Second Spectrum to create enhanced graphics that track player movement and provide real-time updates.
