Monument Valley 3 is released today. As teased in the fall, the latest installment in the spatial puzzle series is available starting today exclusively on Android and iOS as part of Netflix Games. That means you can play for free without ads or microtransactions as long as you have a streaming subscription. service.
Like the previous two games, Monument Valley 3 is a rich, meditative experience about perspective. The levels have always been inspired by mind-blowing artists like MC Escher, and the paths don’t follow the laws of physics. There’s a new layer with the addition of a sailing ship that can be moved freely between sections, but the puzzles are still the core of the game. The same goes for vibes. There’s great ambient music and the art is as gorgeous as ever.
Monument Valley 3 will also receive new content updates each season. In an interview, Ustwo Games lead designer Emily Brown referred to the bite-sized additions to the standalone game as “Monument Valley Snacks.” This is a very light nod to being a live service game, but in reality, this doesn’t seem all that different from the studio’s past approach to releasing DLC for Monument Valley titles.
