Bram Stoker Award-winning editors James Aquilone and Monstrous Books are growing. And today we have seen exclusively one of the new creations of that show stop. Zarigazami is a brand new Kaiju designed by acclaimed cartoon artist Itaru Kinoshita.
The creature appears in Monstrous: The Kaiju Issue and can also be used as a standalone print. Since Zarigazami revealed, fans have been talking about the name and the meaning behind the design, so Kinoshita has created a special bilingual graphics that delve into the origins and inspiration of Monster.
East and West Monster Celebrations
Monstrous Magazine has built a reputation for celebrating pulp traditions and classic horror with stylish black and white comics, stories and essays. Now, the series is turning its gaze east for inspiration. Monstrous: Kaiju Issue is a full-color, oversized 8.5″ x 11″ special dedicated to celebrating the Japanese monster movie Titan, which arrives in time for Godzilla’s 70th anniversary.
“When I decided to do the Kaiju issue of Monstrous Magazine, I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to do Kaiju-Size magazine,” explained Aquilone. “We’re going from 5.5 x 8.5 to 8.5 x 11 inches. That’s just the beginning. The back issues have also been resizing, so they’ll be available in this new, collectible, oversized Kaiju format for limited time.”

Inner Monster: Kaiju
Future anthology is packed with new stories, comics and artwork from across the Monster Multiverse, including:
“The Colossus from the Crater” – a brand new science fiction short story by Greg Cox, the novelist behind the official prose adaptation of Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).
Konga vs. Gorgo Comic – Written by James Aquilone and depicted by Dave Swartz (Confederate monster), embracing two cult-favorite Titans from the American international photo films of the 1960s and Charlton comics.
Three iconic covers include Larry Tuason’s Konga vs Gorgo cover, and Ev Cantada and Zac Atkinson’s Mega Cate cover.
And of course, Kinoshita’s Zarigazami spotlight debut features its etymology and stunning design.
More monsters, more rewards
In line with Monstrous: The Kaiju Issue, supporters of upcoming campaigns can grab a 32-page comic #1, Monstrous Presents #1, which reprints “Rise of the Morlocks” and “Dead Jack and Oswald Meet Frankenstein” in both Aquilone and JK Woodward. Previous issues with Monstrous Magazine featured everything from essays by Elvira author David Avallone to reprints of classic pulp and new horror comics. All of these are available in Kaiju size format.
